Every day, residents of Boise, Idaho, navigate a complex network of roads and intersections. While most of these intersections are safe, some can be particularly dangerous for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. In this blog post, learn which intersections in Boise are statistically the most dangerous, and what makes them so risky.
Our experienced car accident attorneys at Great West Injury Law have seen firsthand the devastating effects of accidents at these intersections. In some cases, these accidents can result in severe injuries or even fatalities. That’s why it’s so important for everyone who uses the roads in Boise to be aware of potential hazards and take steps to stay safe.
To compile this list, we relied on data from the Idaho Transportation Department and the Fatality Analysis Reporting System. Read on to learn more and stay safe on Idaho’s roads.
The Top 5 Most Dangerous Intersections
The following list constitutes the Boise-area intersections with the highest totals of crashes and injuries. This is according to data compiled by the Idaho Transportation Department covering traffic incidents from 2015-2020, which is the most recent 5-year span with enough data for this study. The intersections on this list are ranked in order of the total number of crashes and injuries that occurred at each location.
- Cole and Overland roads — 231 crashes, 61 injuries
- Eagle Road and Fairview Avenue — 227 crashes, 59 injuries
- Eagle and Ustick roads — 190 crashes, 42 injuries
- Midland and Nampa-Caldwell— 180 crashes, 53 injuries
- Eagle and Franklin roads — 179 crashes, 33 injuries
At the top of the list is the intersection of Cole and Overland, with a total of 231 crashes and 61 injuries over the five-year period. This busy intersection is dangerous due to its large number of lanes, increasing the possible conflict points between cars, and its high traffic volume due to its proximity to busy shopping centers.
The intersection of Eagle Road and Fairview is another hotspot for accidents and injuries. Like Cole and Overland, this intersection is located near several popular shopping destinations and is often congested with both cars and pedestrians. The combination of high traffic volumes and a busy pedestrian environment can make it difficult for drivers to anticipate and react to potential hazards.
Other intersections that made the top five include Eagle and Ustick, Midland and Nampa-Caldwell, and Eagle and Franklin. Each of these intersections has its own unique challenges, such as heavy traffic volumes, complex layouts, rapid changes in the number of lanes, and a high frequency of pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
